The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar contracted MEP to develop, in close consultation with the Department of Fisheries (DoF) of Myanmar, a detailed technical and operational proposal for the introduction of a Vessel Monitoring system (VMS). The agreed strategy was to source an up to date VMS system for DoF through a lease agreement whereby a modern VMS service would be made available to the already established DoF VMS centre in Naypyitaw over a web connection. Staffing and training requirements along with SOPs for the VMS centre and its staff have been outlined in detail by MEP for the running of the central VMS centre in Naypyitaw and satellite centres along the Myanmar coast.
The project has moved onto the next stage, which includes the development of the standard operating procedures and assistance of procurement and commissioning of inshore patrol vessels.
