The aim of the report was to inform seafood (fisheries and aquaculture) policy development and sourcing by illuminating the links and sustainability of supply chains associated with key:
a. Wild capture fishery produced seafood consumption commodities caught by the UK fleet;
b. Wild capture fishery produced seafood consumption commodities imported to the UK;
c. Aquaculture produced seafood consumption commodities produced by the UK industry;
d. Aquaculture produced seafood consumption commodities imported to the UK;
e. Marine species used as feed for aquaculture products that are produced in or imported to the UK.
This report provided an evidence base of characteristics of the supply chains and supply chain maps that can be used to stimulate the UK government to adopt a strategic approach to reducing the UK’s collective seafood consumption footprint. The study includes an assessment of environmental and social risks associated with eight commodity groups, comprised of 33 resources (species / groups), across 157 national and international supply chains.
