MEP were commissioned by the eNGO Oceana to provide an audit of the status of stocks fished by the UK as part of its ongoing campaign for sustainable fisheries in Europe, to set a benchmark of the state of UK fisheries as the UK leaves the EU. MEP produced an audit of the status (stock size and exploitation) of over 100 fish and shellfish stocks fished by the UK fleet, along with an overview of the recent past and future management regimes, the socio-economic characteristics of the industry and the wider ecological impacts of UK fisheries, highlighted through a selection of case studies. The findings of the report supported a series of policy recommendations.
