MEP were contracted by the Sri Lanka Support Unit (SLSU) to review a funding concept note for the development of an early warning weather system in Sri Lanka. The system being proposed will bring specific benefits for fisherman current operating in the Multi Day fishery in the country by providing real time weather forecasting which, it is hoped, will improve safety at sea and reduce losses of people and equipment (which has become a growing problem in the sector). MEP made recommendations on how the system may be improved and potential changes which might be addressed in the development of a future system.
