Pontus marine is an integrated fish catching, processing and marketing company established in Somaliland to produce fish and fish products for the local market and export to the Gulf States. All technical assistance for this start-up has been provided by MEP. Fishing vessels and fishing gear have been specified and procured, a processing facility that complies with all EU and FDA safety regulations built in Berbera and staff trained. A complete HACCP plan has been developed and implemented. Equipment includes a state of the art flake and block ice production machine and modern hygiene compliant processing equipment and facility. Landing places for fish have been designed and built. Specification of products have been produced and an extensive marketing operation carried out in the Middle East with emphasis on the lucrative Gulf State market. The company currently employs in excess of one hundred staff in the catching and processing activities.
