MEP carried out extensive surveys of the fishing sector in Oman and developed a range of projects to enhance the sustainability of the fishery and improve the livelihoods of small scale fishermen in Oman. MEP is currently implementing a coastal FAD project, one of the options identified during phase 1 of the project, to reduce fishing pressure on demersal species, promote sustainable fishing methods and increase fishermen’s income. Other projects to support fisheries management initiatives and provide for increased vessel efficiency are being developed.
