The analysis sought to understand the financial, economic and social conditions the Sri Lankan Multi-Day fishery operated under, and to assess different development scenarios. The study included analyses of the market, the stock, existing infrastructure and the fisheries financial performance.
MEP conducted an assessment of the current product markets for multi-day fisheries; Determined potential markets as a result of sustainability certification; Evaluated the current multi-day fishery infrastructure and Sri Lanka’s fishing infrastructure; Considered the baseline financial characteristics of the multi-day fishery through the creation of a flexible financial model; Assessed the status of the key stocks which represent the higher value species in the multi-day fishery; Assessed Sri Lanka’s and the IOTC’s governance measures; Concluded what actions and supporting measures would deliver beneficial outcomes for the multiday fishery and for Sri Lanka.
