The overall objective of this the project was to support the Fisheries Administration in Cabo Verde in the adoption of strategies and measures to promote economically viable, biologically sustainable, and socially fair, coastal fishing, capable of inducing sustainable gains for the economy and significantly reducing coastal communities poverty. To this end, it was intended the work consisted of a study to Develop a Program to Gradually Convert the Surplus of Small- Scale Artisanal Fishing Fleet to Semi-Industrial Fishing Vessels in Cabo Verde. Work included an assessment of assess the current capacities of small-scale and semi-industrial coastal fishing and proposed to the Fisheries Administration a program of adjustment and optimization of fishing fleets, based on the stated principles – economic viability, environmental sustainability , and social equitability.
