MEP provided the interim strategy leader to develop the Marine Protected Area component of WWF’s Coral Triangle Network Initiative. The consultant worked with WWF and other Coral Triangle partners in Indonesia, Sydney and the USA, to develop the strategy for delivering a network of marine protected areas and marine managed areas, designed to safeguard marine biodiversity from degradation and fishing pressure. Sustainable financing mechanisms were assessed and funding secured from USAID to commence the strategy. A spin-off role was the assessment of a hand-line tuna fishery operating from Makassar.
