In view of the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU), the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) was allocated additional resources for control and enforcement (C&E) activity from late 2018/19 to 2019/20. MEP are part of a consortium which were commissioned by the MMO to conduct an evaluation of fisheries control and enforcement (C&E).
The evaluation aims to assess how the additional resources have been delivered and to what effect, as well as develop an improved understanding of compliance with fishing regulations. The evaluation will draw on a number of research tools to gather. These include a face-to-face survey with 200 fishers, interviews with sanctioned fishers, interviews with MMO and other agency staff, as well as a series of issues/port-specific case studies and analysis of secondary data sets.
