MacAlister Elliott and Partners (MEP) were contracted by the Pew Charitable Trust for the provision of a suitably qualified fisheries scientist, to act as a point of engagement with ICCAT (International Commission for the conservation of Atlantic Tunas).
The overriding aims of this position were as follows;
-to be formally included in a European Member State (probably the UK) delegation at ICCAT;
-to remain scientifically independent and focus on priority issues and to actively participate in the key processes and meetings of ICCAT, with a focus on the conservation and precautionary management principles.
