MEP advised the proposed London Array Wind farm development situated in the Thames Estuary on fisheries and related issues. London Array, an offshore wind farm situated in the southern North Sea, applied for its various planning consents and licenses in June 2005. This followed the completion of extensive environmental studies which began as far back as 2001. The wind farm was built more than 20km (12 miles) off the Kent and Essex coasts. MEP provided technical advice on the effect of the placement of the wind farm on the fishing industry and supported identification of vessels with a particular reliance on the grounds. MEP also supported the quantification of the disturbance these vessels would likely experience as a result of the wind farm being constructed.
