The objective of the consultancy was to review and update the institutional structure and governance mechanisms that exist to facilitate the management and sustainable financing for marine protected areas (MPAs) within the Republic of Mauritius. The recommendations should help to develop a positive image and “brand” for the MPAs and the enforcement staff helping to reduce conflict with local communities and identify mechanisms for ensuring sustainability. The approach for the Lot 2 consultancy was to undertake an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to institutional and governance arrangements for MPA management in the Republic of Mauritius, to propose key recommendations based on this analysis, and to solicit feedback.
