The objectives of this Initial Environmental Evaluation (IEE) were to identify the risks to the marine environment due to the proposed port construction at Gara’ad, in order to both safeguard the natural processes on which the population depend and specify the detailed Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment (ESIA) that will be needed to guide the construction. The ESIA focused on receptors considered to be at the greatest risk of adverse effects from the Proposed Development.
Where potential significant impacts were identified, mitigation measures were recognised to reduce or avoid these impacts. Recommendations for monitoring requirements were also made. The findings of the IEE were then used to inform the detailed Terms of Reference for a potential ESIA and estimated costs.
