MEP completed a study considering the Egyptian aquaculture industry, its current positioning and the opportunity for development.
The study focused on aquafeed, aquaculture and fisheries value chains, and was conducted through analysis of secondary data supported by one-to-one interviews and focus group discussions with key value chain actors, particularly those engaged in the private sector.
The project’s aim was to support Egypt’s private sector competitiveness through stronger value chains, improve access to finance for SMEs, and increase economic opportunities for women and young people. This aims to support integration of SMEs into value chains and facilitate their access to finance.
The review then moved on to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the industry, what areas of improvement may exist and opportunities for future investment.
