MEP Consultants have recently been visiting stakeholders in Zanzibar for a consultancy to prepare general management plans for marine conservation areas.
The project aims to directly contribute to the improved management of the five MCAs on Unguja and Pemba. The project will also develop an MCS strategy and a demarcation plan for each MCA.
MEP’s team spent a week visiting the five MCAs and consulted with the Department of Fisheries Development (DFD), MCA Managers and field staff; Fisher Executive Committee (FEC) members and representatives from the tourism sector.
The purpose of these initial consultations was to introduce the assignment and to solicit initial inputs from the stakeholders.
